1.) Best Darn Popcorn Maker in Town

I was pleasantly suprised when I ordered this popcorn maker for my husband's birthday. It has a great look, it popped all but two kernels the first time we tried it, and it was very easy to clean. I am extremely pleased with this product and would recommend it to anyone.

This is really a great popcorn popper! Hot fresh popcorn in what seems like seconds, and on average I've only had to deal with 2 or 3 kernels that don't pop. Highly recommended!

3.) Use the right popcorn to keep kernels from flying
Reviewed by: Paul Dowlin Auburn, Washington

This review is in response to those that are complaining about excessive unpopped kernels and or flying popcorn everywhere. In my experience you need to use Jollytime popcorn not Orville Redenbacher Gourmet popping corn.

I have had my machine for 6 months now and I love it. I use it atleast once a week, more often than not it's 2 or 3 times a week. The only time I have problems is when I use Orville Redenbacher kernels, which is only once and it was an 8lb drum from Costco and literally half of it went unpopped. I was fortunate in that I used Jollytime the first time I ran it otherwise I would have given up on it myself. It is truly amazing how little popcorn is popped and what little does pop usually ends up on the floor, top of my cabinets/fridge when you use Orville Redenbacher's Gourmet Popping corn. Switch to Jollytime and there are very few unpopped kernels and what little mess there is stays on the counter next to the machine instead of all over the kitchen.

I hope this helps someone make a decision.

4.) Look neat, Does what it says . . . but
Reviewed by: A. Corduan Chicago, Illinois
Rating:
This little popper got my wife all excited . . . and it does look very nice. We enjoyed quite a few batches of popcorn out of it - when you do exactly what you are told, it does what it says it will.

Which is the problem. It has a teeny weeny capacity . . . a quarter cup of popcorn, if that. The rules are that the measuring cup be not overfilled or underfilled (which a few kernals would do). Which heightens the irritation with the following: When you dump the carefully measured popcorn in through the hole at the top, you simply can't do it without some raw popcorn missing the shoot and bouncing back out.

It was impossible to pump two batches through in succession as the heat sensor would kill it after the first, forcing a cool down. So with a large family (I have 11 kids) it can get frustrating.

Then . . . my 20 year old was asked to make a batch and, unbeknownst to me, had never used a hot air popper before. She poured something like a cup of kernals in the shoot, ignoring the measuring cup, and promptly burnt up the blower - game over.

Went out and bought an ugly popper off the shelf - 1/2 cup capacity, multiple batches in rapid succession, hardly a kernal unpopped.

Having said all of that . . . I might buy another! My wife likes the way it looks, what can I say :-)

SO . . . if you want a pretty little appliance sitting in your kitchen, have a small group to service and are patient, this little popper is great. If not, you will get very frustrated.

5.) crazy popper

The popper looks really nice, but plastic. Like most everything you buy! I have only tried it once. But the popcorn when it popped, went everywhere, I had an extremly large bowl. And lots of un popped kernels. It was generic popcorn, so I don't know what was at fault the popper or the popcorn.

6.) Looks great but...

Great looking popper and I like the fact that I don't have to use oil in the popping process. Too bad it failed to work at all the third time I went to pop. And I was popping for the kids! Now I have to find out if I can return it without a receipt or the original box...

The popper was a Christmas gift, however it was plugged in the same day and the element burned out within 1 minute of plugging it in. Amazon was really good in getting us a replacement within a few days. The second one is working, but the paint is peeling off of it. It does not pop the kernels as well as our old popper.

8.) It looks good
Reviewed by: N. Banton Naples, Italy
Rating:
I really like popcorn. I was totally psyched to use this popper, and the fact that it air-popped made me love it more. It's easy to use and easy to clean. However, from the first use the popcorn went flying everywhere! I placed a good-sized bowl underneath the slide/opening shoot and it caught about 3/4 of the popcorn. The second time, I balanced a very tall popcorn bucket underneath the shoot and still, popcorn and unpopped kernels were flying everywhere. There are a lot more unpopped kernels being thrown than actual popcorn, which is a pain to find and clean up and to get hit with. After the money I spent, I won't give it up, but I think this is the most disappointing thing I bought all year. The popcorn that does land in the bowl is good, I think it has a slight staleness to it, but my friends think it tastes especially fresh. Maybe I'm a little bitter by the time I get to eating it. Also, on the second use, the machine just suddenly stopped. I wasn't sure if it overheated or what (the popper gets extremely hot) but it did begin working again.
I bought this trying to save money and calories versus the microwave kind. I think I might keep an Orville bag of Natural around just in case.

9.) Never worked!

I got this for my husband despite the low feedback and was super excited for it. I was willing to take a few missle launched kernels. However I was GRAVELY dissapointed recently when my husband plugged it in to use for the first time.
I NEVER worked, he put the corn in and it started to smell burning, it wasn't even turning.
I am SO upset it isn't even funny. I have contacted the company which didn't even have a PHONE number for customer service, so we will see if I ever hear from them and if they rectify the situation.
I will update it if they do....

10.) Piece of Junk
Reviewed by: PT CA
Rating:
I can't believe someone actually designed, tooled up and mass produced this as an operational popcorn popper. What a pile. The popcorn exit spout is not very deep but real wide so a round bowl only catches about half the popcorn that exits and the rest goes on the countertop. Doesn't matter, as it turns out, because only about half the kernals you put in the machine get popped and the rest just spin around in the machine until the thing overheats and shuts itself off. Before I take this POS to the dump I'm going to run over it with a truck so no one else will be tempted to try to use it!

11.) Very Entertaining, But Worthless

I was so excited to find this adorable popcorn popper and it was red to match my kitchen. I unpacked the unit, placed it in an honorable corner on my counter top and couldn't wait to savor the magnificent popcorn. I felt like the little boy and his Red Rider BB gun at Christmas. I read all the directions. I carefully measured the popcorn leveling the cap as stated in the directions. I called my husband in to watch the performance and boy did it perform! Hot unpopped kernels went all over the place. The popped corn bounced out of the bowl and onto the counter and floor. You couldn't get close to the unit to turn it off because of the hot kernels. Less than half of the corn popped. I couldn't help but laugh at the situation. It was like Jane Fonda at the copier in 9 To 5. There is a reason the instructions say to stand back at least 36" and they mean it. Needless to say, I put it back in the box and returned it for the old dependable Presto corn popper. Recommended for entertainment and massive cleanup, not popcorn.

12.) Should be recalled by manufacturer!!

Bought this model at a brick & mortar retailer before seeing all the negative reviews here on Amazon-- won't do THAT again!! Never got a chance to plug the popper in: As the instructions directed, I was wiping it off before using it for the first time, and the red paint started to come off!! Kept rubbing, kept getting paint on my damp paper towel! Put it right back in the box and returned it to the store.

14.) Bad Purchase

I saw this machine on display in a local Bed Bath & Beyond store and liked it very much. I didn't buy it right away because I wanted to sleep it overnight. Then asked my husband to buy it for the kids as a Christmas gift as I couldn't forget about it. It turned out to be a big dissapointment. As many people have said, it doesn't pop even half of the kernels and the popped fly all over the place even I put a wide, large bowl righ under the openning. I first thought my kernels were not good. I tried then 3 different kinds that all did the similar things. Will return to the store. Come here just want to see other people' experience. I am with most of you who gave 1 star.

I do not have much to add that has not already been said! For years I had the basic Presto hot air poppers and it worked very well. When that popper finally died after many many years of service, my husband wanted one of these nostalgic ones for looks. My son and I tried it out this evening and I was so dissapointed. There was barely enough popcorn for the two of us, partly due to the small capacity, and partly due to the large amount of unpopped kernels. I did not want to wait the required 15 minutes to pop another batch. I should have packed it back up and taken it back as soon as I read that in the manual, but thought it would surely pop enough for our small family. I was wrong!!! The reviewer who thought the kernels tasted stale was right on the money. I used a brand new container of Orville Redenbacher kernels, so I know it had to be the popper and not the corn! As others mentioned despite the giant bowl I had underneath kernels were flying everywhere. Needless to say this was twice the price of the old faithful Presto. I plan to take it back as it is basically useless. I have never reviewed a product good or bad before, but am so tired of buying things that don't work right, that I had to add my voice to the chorus. Do not buy this!!

16.) WORST POPPER EVER

I bought this popper as a healthier then microwave popcorn. I eat popcorn every day. All 7 to 10 times I used this machine it threw out more unpopped corn the it popped. I even used a bowl twice as wide as the popper, and had more kernels fly all over the kitchen the popped corn in the bowl.

Time to have this machine shredded. The worst appliance I have ever owned or used in my 46 years.

If I could give this product a zero I would. I purchased 2 to give as gifts and one for my family. It shot hot, unpopped kernels out of the top, even though the cap was on, the force of it knocked the cap off and most of the kernels never hit the oversized bowl I placed underneath. I had hot kernels all over the kitchen. The force with which the hot kernels flew out was dangerous as my excited children waited for their popcorn. They had to run away from the machine. More than 3/4 of the kernels were left unpopped. The others which were given as gifts, the motors broke on the first try. It looks nice, but that is about it. I am returning all three.

This product looked great, plastic, but great for my old red kitchen. It was very simple and easy to use, but it simply doesn't work right. The worse thing was the unpopped kernels were extremely hot and they flew everywhere as well, burning whoever was in the "line of fire". This is one of the worse products I've seen.

The popcorn popper looked great in my kitchen. Unfortunately, that is the only positive comment I can make. Maybe half of the corn actually popped and even what did would bounce all over the countertop. Also, the instructions say to wait 10 minutes between each popping. Sadly I had to return, it was too expensive for looks alone. Nostalgia RHP-625 Hot-Air Retro Popcorn Maker

I got this for Christmas and was excited about using it for the first time. I read the instructions thoroughly and followed them to a T. This machine started shooting un-popped kernels out the vents on the sides and front beside the actual shoot. I would say about one third of the kernels popped and that's being generous. But what was really great was that some of the un-popped kernels started popping while they were in the bowl and that would throw the few popped ones out onto the floor which made the whole experience hilarious. I cleaned everything up and did not tell my wife about how it popped, I let her experience it for her self. This gave me even more amusement, but I fear not enough to keep it though.

As some others have said, it really is amazing that they sell this thing as a popcorn maker and not as a novelty joke.
