My experience with this popcorn popper is quite different that those of the previous reviewers. Then again, I may have a newer version of this popper - mine is yellow rather than black. I found it very easy to use -- just put a tablespoon of oil on the surface, add a third of a cup of kernels and voila! Less than two minutes later, virtually all the kernels were popped. The popping really was that fast. This is the second popper I have purchased previously having returned an air popper that delivered kernel missiles and dry popcorn. I had really wanted to like that one, as I had thought air popping would be healthier. I was hopeful that this would be better & was relieved that it was. Once again, perhaps this is a newer model, being yellow.

I purchased this popper to get myself off the microwave popcorn, which I don't think is very healthy. I have tried numerous hot air poppers, but they have all been terrible, as one reviewer said, throwing out unpopped kernels and ending up with maybe a small handful of popcorn. I like this popper very much, but it did take some trial and error to get things to work just right. First of all, I discovered the butter well did not work at all. The well doesn't seem to get hot enough to melt the butter, and then when I flipped the "bowl" over to eat out of it, the lid on the butter well, doesn't seal, so I had melted butter all over the place. So my advice is to skip the butter well. When we were growing up we always used to pop the corn right in the butter. So I tried mixing a blend of oil (to prevent burning) and butter, right in the popper with the corn and it worked great. The popcorn pops quickly and is evenly coated with the butter. If you don't put the oil in, however, you will have burned butter. If you are one who can eat the popcorn without the butter and think it takes too long, simply preheat the popper and then add your kernels to it.
This popper would benefit from an on/off switch as well.
All told, I love my popper and do feel, even with butter, that it's healthier than the microwave stuff.
4.) Great popcorn, bad materials

Makes great tasting popcorn, fairly quickly, few unpopped seeds. Don't use the butter well, just melt the butter in the microwave in a measuring cup. The plastic the bowl is made out of is poor. It expanded and now the lid won't go on and it has become unwashable. No matter what we do the bowl is oily and fills with moisture when heated up making some of the popcorn soggy. This design of popper makes the best tasting popcorn, but I'd suggest a different brand.

We bought this popcorn popper several weeks and were eager to try it out as we love popcorn in our family. After several attempts over several days we could never get more than 20% of the kernels to pop.
Frustrated we took it back to the store, exchanged it for another, bought some fresh popcorn and tried again. Same results. We returned it to the store again but noticed something interesting on the original packaging. The first popper came with a 2 year warranty printed on the box. The second popper came with a 1 year warranty. The boxes were identical except for the fact that now a very tacky 1 year warranty sticker had been placed over the spots on the box where the 2 year warranty had been printed. That certainly says a great deal about the quality of Toastess products and the company's willingness to stand behind them.
I have sent three emails to Toastess regarding our concerns over the quality of the product and their warranty decision. To date none of my emails have been responded to or even acknowledged.
Clearly I am frustrated with a number of issues regarding Toastess' product quality and customer service. At this point I would not have a Toastess product in my home if they were giving them away for free.
7.) popper a complete dud

We were very excited to replace our old popper with this 6 qt fancy-pants popper that promised movie style popcorn. Only thing is, we tried it twice and it took over TWENTY minutes for it to pop a few kernels. And then it stopped and simply started to scorch the popcorn until our fire alarm reacted to the carcinogens. Obviously, lots of advantages to air popping as it doesn't include the requisite palm oil that microwave popcorn does, but this product is right up there with x-ray glasses in its many uses.
