1.) Wow - the best popcorn ever!

I bought this when my air popper died & I am so glad I found this product! The popcorn is the best & it is very simple to make. The thing I like the best is that it is a healthy alternative to the chemically filled microwave popcorn. I can choose which oil to use & how much so I have total control over what goes into my popcorn so I feel confident that what I am eating is good for me.
The packaged corn that came with was ok & a good introduction to using the popper but I will not buy packages again as it is so easy to make a great tasting popcorn on my own. I did try the cinnamon popcorn recipe from the included book & it was fantastic!
I would recommend this to anyone, the popper is easy to handle, easy to clean & it makes the best, crisp & crunchy popcorn ever. It only takes about 3 minutes to be done & you can even use the stirring mechanism to stir extra butter in it or other salt or other seasonings. Sometimes simple & old fashioned is better & that is the case with this item.
Now we can't wait to rent a movie so we have an excuse to pop popcorn almost every night!

I was a little concerned that the Whiley-Pop might be a hassle to use and would end up stored with the fondue, assorted blenders, choppers, magic egg or bullet, etc. But it wasn't! It works as well as described and is very easy to clean and store. We use it a lot so I'm pleased with my decision to purchase it.
Popcorn does not burn (unless you walk away from it(DAMHIK), I find that less expensive popcorn pops just as well as some of the brands that cost 3 times as much.
When it arrived I was a little put off by the thinness of the pot but after using it realized it let the heat spread quickly and evenly across the bottom.
Buy One. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

i was really surprised with how much faster than the microwave it pops up the popcorn. We ate 12 quarts for popcorn yesterday :) (two Batches)
i was unimpressed about how lightweight the pan was it's super thin but it's only on the stove for a matter of minutes at a time so it's not really an issue.
4.) Enjoying the popper

I purchased this popper after becoming concerned about possible health issues with bagged microwave popcorn. I am glad I did. I use it daily and am in control of the seasoning on my popcorn. I like much less salt on my popcorn than most and no butter. I am surprised that my husband is eating my plain popcorn now instead of extra butter & salt flavors.
If I had it to do again I would just get the popper without the packets of seasoned popcorn. I have only used one of them and found it to be less crisp than the plain store brand popcorn.
I agree with other reviewers about the cheaper store brand popcorn be equal or better than the high price brand.
My only con is that a little steam/grease spatters through the vents and lands on my hand/arm while popping. Not painful but annoying.

I've had mine for a couple of years now and still love it. I even bought a 2nd one as a gift. After experimenting with different temperatures (I have gas), and going through about 12 varieties of popcorn, I feel like I have mastered the craft. The super-fine popcorn salt is crucial. Unfortunately I also discovered that hands-down the best oil is the coconut oil-based stuff. BTW, the Wabash Farms Kettle Corn is shockingly delicious, but can be a cleanup chore.

This is the 2nd purchase of a Whirley-Pop. I've gotten spoiled by how good it is because movie theater popcorn tastes gross to me now -(strange coating on tonge). I pop my own and smuggle it in. The recipes that come with it are also fabulous. My family likes the "Sweet Touch" recipe that adds 4 tablespoons of sugar to the oil, popcorn and salt.

I got my Whirley Pop popper about one month ago, and have made about 10-15 batches already, including the kettle corn recipe included. I read all the reviews on every version of the popper listed here, and was not to sure if I would be satisfied. I made sure to follow the instructions to a "T" from the get-go, and made amazing popcorn. We eat popcorn at least twice a week, so we know popcorn pretty well. The plastic gear has not been an issue, because we use slightly over medium heat on a 9 yr old stove. The starter packs included will hook you. I already went out and bought popcorn oils and salts that the pros use. The kids love for me to make kettle corn for them also. The only negative is that if you don't wipe it down once it cools, it does become harder to remove the oil and salt residue. If you wipe it down once it is cool(after you eat your popcorn) it will wipe away with no water or soap. If this popper does ever break down, I will use the lifetime warranty to replace it or buy a new one if needed. If you are unsure if you should buy it, get it, follow the instructions, and I believe you'll be satisfied. P.S. The different popcorn you use will make a difference. I use the popcorn with the old guy on the label.

I love fresh-popped popcorn and the Whirly-Pop delivers. Easy to clean, just wipe it out with paper towels after it's cooled. Their kits make really great tasting popcorn but, with coconut oil, rather unhealthy. I use Orville Redenbacher's popcorn oil which is canola, much better for you. BTW, the "secret" ingredient that movie theaters use is called flavacol, you can add it to the popcorn and oil prior to popping. Tastes great but personally, I think I'm allergic as it made my lips swell. Angelina Jolie, NOT!

I purchased this product after I had a craving for popcorn popped on the stove the way I used to have it as a child. I made some popcorn in a pot and it was great, but I thought I would like a dedicated popper. The Whirly Pop was the perfect solution. It makes Perfect Popcorn every time. Virtually every kernel pops up perfectly with no scorching. Just keep the heat on medium and stir. The popcorn is so much better than microwave popcorn that I gave away a large pack of microwave stuff I had purchased from the Boy Scouts. It really does not take too long to pop on the stove. I stir it a bit when I start, walk away for about 30 seconds (usually to melt my butter or grab a bowl) then return to stir some more. I stir it constantly as it really starts popping. I now make popcorn two to three times a week. I bought this gift set because it was only a couple of dollars more with the included popcorn. The kettle corn came out delicous but I didn't care for the others. I'd rather use real butter! After the kettle corn, I did have to wash the popper but it came out beautifully clean. Otherwise, I follow the instructions and just wipe out the popper between uses. As another reviewer stated, this is a must have!

I LOVE POPCORN. I received a Whirley-Pop from a roommate, (12 years ago and I still have it), because I used to stink up the apartment by burning popcorn (ye olde shaking of a pot on the stovetop) everytime I made it. I have never burned popcorn since with the Whirley-Pop.
I recently bought a new popper to give to my godson for his birthday because popcorn making is an integral part of my visits (in addition to introducing him and his brother, 4 and 7, to the films of my childhood). Usually we would just make microwave popcorn but that never tastes as good and one bag is never enough for the three of us (five of us if their parents are snacking with us).
The popcorn that comes with it is tasty and the kids like it but at home I just use organic popcorn I buy, olive oil and sea salt. My only recomendation is to also own a real big bowl to dump the whole pot of popcorn into as soom as it's done popping. A big paper shopping bag also works if you like to shake the salt up once in awhile. I LOVE POPCORN and the Whirley-pop makes it easy an delicious!

I am in love with my Whirleypop!! It might be the best little investment ever. I was wanting to get away from the prepackaged microwave versions, and this makes popping corn so very easy and cleanup is a snap. Contrary to some negative reviews, in following the instructions, I had no splatter to contend with, not more than 1-2 kernels of corn unpopped, no burning problems, just a perfect popcorn result, in texture and taste and I could do this with cheap ordinary bulk popcorn as well. It is just as quick as microwaving too. You just wipe out the pan with a paper towel if you use it frequently. Otherwise, just pop off the lid and wash as any pan. I used some spray-on "I can't believe its not butter" and added some salt with a very low-cal snack. I tried the pre-packaged kettle corn and loved it -- not as addicting-sweet or salty as microwave versions, but very tasty. The only other pre-packaged type i tried was the movie-style which i didn't expect to much like as i'm not a real fan of movie popcorn, but it was also very good. When I first got my Whirley Pop, I tested several types of popcorn and several types of oil. It definately prefers gourmet popcorn (regular stuff from the grocery store didn't pop up nearly as well, or at all.) Also it likes lighter, more viscous oils. (Vegetable or canola) I tried olive oil and that was a mistake! It made a huge burned mess.
My biggest complaint is that I have had to call to get two tops replaced in the past 8 months due to them breaking (the little gears just break apart) but they have always been very pleasant about it, and sent new ones free. They also said this problem has been fixed at the manufacturing end, so I hope not to have to call them again.
My other complaint is cleaning the thing. If you use just a tablespoon or two of oil (which it advertises it does) be prepared for using steel wool for several minutes after each use. If you don't, and leave the little burned remains (even if they are quite low) the next batch will stick there and the mess just gets worse. As I don't like my popcorn oily, I end up spending a significant amount of time scrubbing the bottom of the pot, even when it hasn't burned (it still leaves a few remains which have to be scrubbed off.) But the popcorn is worth it!
I bought a huge bag of popcorn and a gallon of popcorn oil at a membership warehouse and they have been working really well. (The popcorn was $12 for something like 50lbs, which will last us a lifetime. And it is GOOD!) The oil is that stuff they use at movie theaters which is butter flavored, but we can use very little and it pops well in it.

After correcting that by flattening the lid where it was slightly sprung it worked well until I tipped the popper over to empty it. Then the pot fell off the lid. This works great. Almost every kernel cooks and no burning. The same popcorn even tastes better than it did when I just cooked it in a normal pan. This has made having popcorn fun again. Perhaps a little heavier pan would be good since you don't have to shake it but I am not complaining.
69.) Excellent popcorn!

The only thing that keeps this from getting 5 stars is that you have to stand by while the popcorn pops. The quality of the popcorn is worth the extra effort though. I was surprised at finding the popcorn superior to any other that I've had! It really makes great tasting popcorn. Very few, if any, old maids too. This is very easy to use and with the quality of this product it seems I'll have it for many years to come.

71.) Not quite as good as my First Whirly Pop

We have used the Whirly Pop for homemade popcorn for several years. We purchased our first one from Cracker Barrel. Over the years it got to looking pretty gross - and had been overheated a few times :0)
We decided we would order another one, since we loved the first popper. This one works 'OK', but does not seem to be quite as sturdy - possibly even a tad smaller - but we aren't sure - since we threw out our old one before the new one came - so we could not compare.
But, the mechanism for turning the stirrer inside does not seem to go around quite as smoothly as the first popper.
All in all, we are satisfied - but not quite as satisfied as we were with our first one. IF we ever see any others and can actually test the turning mechanism and find one that works more smoothly - we will probably replace this one with a new one.
We will not send it back for a refund - it works ok.
I would rate our first Whirly Pop with five stars
This new one rates 3 stars
Same manufacturer - so, go figure.
I have no complaints about the company who sent it - they sent it promptly.
72.) Broke after about 5 months

We had this popcorn maker for about 5 months before it broke. One of the plastic gears broke. They used to be made out of metal. It worked well up until that point I guess.
73.) Not as good as before

We had a popper like this, but this one in no way compares. The lid does not stay on, the fasteners don't grip the pan and donesn't stay on very well. The metal part that turns the popcorn inside the pan is not much bigger than a paperclip. The one we owned before was a lot better. This one hardly moves the popcorn around. I was sure this was the same brand that we owned before, but I would not recommend this popper. Perhaps they have one that is more expensive and works better, but it is difficult to tell when ordering on-line.
74.) This is a disaster

I bought this because of all the great reviews, and because it was half the price of the kind of self-stirring popcorn popper I usually buy. Boy am I sorry--what a poorly thought out design. Luckily it's made pretty cheaply--soon I'll be able to justify throwing it out.
It's all true about how fast this popper pops and how you can reduce the amount of oil and all that. But when it's finished popping and you try to open the little flap and pour the popcorn into a bowl, it doesn't pour out easily (sometimes the popcorn doesn't move at all), and while you're trying to shake the popcorn out the opening, the clips that hold the lid to the pan start to let go.
So then you have to try to use a potholder to hold the pan with one hand (which is nearly impossible because the pan itself doesn't have any handles--the only handle is on the lid) and take the whole lid off. Since the stirring mechanism is attached to the lid and extends to the bottom of the pan, pulling the lid off means you pull the stirring mechanism up through the popcorn, which of course scatters the popcorn everywhere.
If you have two people and a huge bowl, one of you can use potholders to hold the pan over the bowl while the other slowly pulls the lid off, which may help you get more popcorn into the bowl than on the stovetop and floor.
But while you're going through the contortions of trying to get the popcorn out of the pan and into a bowl, the popcorn kernels touching the still-hot pan have plenty of time to scorch, meaning you get crappy popcorn AND bits of popcorn stuck to the pan.
The "theater popcorn" that comes with this pan is unbelievably salty and a little messy. The kettle corn is a little salty and unbelievably messy.
