The Whirley-Pop Stovetop popcorn popper is incredible. The popcorn is the best tasting ever! I use 2 tablespoons of olive oil and a half cup of popocorn and this popper pops every kernel in just a few minutes time on the stove. The crank on the popper is a little squeaky, but like I said the popcorn is awesome. After using the popper it is very easy to clean, I just wipe it out with a paper towel and then put it back in storage. I would highly recommend this popper to anyone who is a popcorn lover.

This is the best popcorn popper ever! It's easy, really fast and fun. Every kernel pops up light and fluffy. We used the pre-measured movie theater packs and we think the popcorn tastes better than what we get at the movies. We also popped a store bought corn and it also popped up light and fluffy with no kernels unpopped. We are not fans of microwave popcorn and we usually popped in a pot on the stove. The Whirley-pop makes a better popcorn and is so much faster and easier because of the material it is made of and the way the steam is vented. We love it and never have a problem eating the full batch.

This is my second Whirly-Pop- I had one years ago that got so gross from overuse that I threw it away. I replaced it with a cheap, no-name brand which ended up breaking and never gave me the same results. Now that I have a Whirly-Pop again, I can satisfy my popcorn addiction. It makes it fast and it makes a lot of popcorn. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys fresh, buttery, movie style popcorn. WalMart sells a butter topping that it the perfect compliment to this fresh popped corn.

I've used the popper a couple times now and it works great! The pan isn't as heavy duty as other poppers, but it gets the job done just as good. The parts seem to be made more durable than other poppers. The plastic window at the top of the popper from another brand I owned melted and broke off after about 3 years of use.

The Whirley-Pop popcorn maker made the best homemade popcorn I have ever had. I used the popcorn oil / popcorn kit that came with it and I also bought the popcorn buttery topping (like they have at the theater). The popcorn left very few kernels and was very light and fluffy. If you are a popcorn lover like I am, I highly recommend this product.

My old popper like this broke and I got the Whirley-Pop to replace it. Once you make popcorn like this you'll never eat the microwaved junk again! It only takes a few minutes more to make popcorn on the stove--half a cup of kernels and some oil, and in five minutes you've got a big, yummy bowl of hot popcorn.
I wasn't crazy about their packaged mix. Too salty and too dry. But the popper itself is excellent and also comes with a decent warranty on the parts that tend to break on these--the gears and the handle.

Okay. So my family is nuts about whirley pop. This is the way to make popcorn. We used to have an air popper and I was never fully impressed with it because it spits the popcorn out as soon as it pops and that is not quite enough time to make the popcorn not chewy. The whirley pop allows the popcorn to cook just the perfect amount of time to be done just right. The moisture vents on top let the moisture out which is also essential to good popcorn. I like being able to use my organic popcorn in the popper. A couple of things that I would advise. It does need a good cleaning at the start as there is a lot of dark grease from production. Also the metal hands that spin the popcorn were not bent down to allow the proper stirring of the popcorn. It would just float on top of the unpopped kernels. Anyways, it took me a couple of tries to figure this out and then I bent them with my hands and it worked perfect!

I've used microwave ones, electric ones, air poppers. This one is the best. Just follow the directions, and don't put your heat too high. I have an electric stove, and set it on medium, let it heat up before I put the pan on, as the directions suggest.
While the stove is heating, I pour the oil, 2-3 tablespoons, and 1/2 cup popcorn into the pot. Make sure the lid is securely closed, and stir slowly.........this is a great job for kids, if you have them.
Clean up is a breeze. Let it cool down, take off the lid, wash and dry. Unlike some others, I don't like just "wiping it out".....but thats just me.
Do not be put off by the lightweight aluminum.......its that way for a purpose. Makes great popcorn!

We buy our popcorn at a local Amish store (it's called Lady Finger popcorn)and it pops up small and tender - nothing like that microwave junk (which no one in my household will even eat anymore). I've purchased a number of these as gifts and will continue to as long as they are available. Highly recommended product!

3. No mess. the hot air popcorn maker makes a mess.
4. no extra counter space necessary.
5.first time users will make perfect popcorn. (Hint: just turn the crank while cooking)

The first Whirly-Pop I encountered was a gift to me from my husband. I didn't think I would use it, but once I flipped through the included recipe book, I was inspired to try some of them. The Cinnamon Crunch Popcorn is a huge hit wherever I take it. Other savory recipes are great too. It's quick, easy to use and there is hardly a unpopped kernel in the pot. The popped corn is very large and light. I purchased one as a shower gift for a fan of my Cinnamon Crunch Popcorn and she used it three times within the first week of having it! If you love popcorn and would like to try some gourmet recipes, I would recommend getting this gizmo.

I have had a whirley-pop for about 10 years now and I still use it. Stove-top popped corn just cannot be beat. It takes about 3 minutes to pop 6 quarts which is actually faster than the microwave. I haven't had any issues with quality of the popper after all these years. Be sure to clean it after use. If you just wipe it down good directly after, that is all you need to do since this is more the old-fashioned approach of a 'seasoned' pan. You should be able to find butter-flavored popping oil with the popcorn in the local grocery store along with popcorn salt which is finer so better suited. Do not overfill! Move off of heat as soon as it is done.
(Side note: I have read some cautions about aluminum and alzheimer's here on Amazon's product reviews. One might want to personally research that topic. Might want to include the alzheimers.org website in the research. Aluminum is found in many natural sources too - like tea.)

If so, we'll simply call the company like one reviewer did, and ask for the free replacement gear.
But we got this for a gift this Christmas, it's *NEVER* something I would buy and at first I thought "meh". After trying it, however, we're sold! We can't do movie night without it.

Bought this for my brother Christmas '08 - he is a popcorn fanatic! He loved it but didn't take care of it or wash it properly so the bottom got charred or something so he needed a new one.
Bought him an air popper Christmas '09 that shoots out popcorn so you put a bowl underneath to catch it and he really loves that one, too. I think he likes it better, esp. because it's less work - don't have to watch a pan and turn the handle like Whirley pop.
Taste: I prefer the taste of the Whirley-Pop myself. Airpopper popcorn is softer, less crunch, sometimes more wet from the butter, in my opinion.
Ease of use: Airpopper easier to clean, don't have to do as much work to get the popcorn.

Give the Wabash people a call. They will ask you when you bought the popper and they will register your product. Then they will send you a brand new lid no questions asked. They will continue to do this for the next 25 years. I wish the entire gear system was made of metal, but with impeccable customer service like Wabash provides, I can overlook that.
As for the popper itself, the other reviews pretty much cover it. More fun and healthier than microwave popcorn and easier to store than a hot air job. I use 1/8 cup olive oil to 1/2 cup popcorn and don't even bother turning the gear until I hear the first kernel explode. I'm hoping this will save wear and tear for next time. I melt a tablespoon or two of butter over the top just 'cause I like the taste and add a little salt right in the kettle (be sure to use a potholder...it's hot!). Once the popcorn is gone, I fit the lid back on and stick it back under the cabinet. I don't even bother to wipe it out. Keeps it nice and seasoned!

I bought two of these popcorn popper sets as gifts last year and both were liked very much by the recipients. I bought four this time, including one for myself as I'm not a fan of microwave or hot air popcorn. The popper works great other than once in a while a kernel will get stuck under the turning wand. A little shake of the pan will usually dislodge it. Using the included popcorn/oil/seasoning packets, every single kernel will usually pop. Interesting that the enclosed book says not to season until after popping but the seasoning is included IN the popcorn packet with no such admonition. The packets make a full kettle of popcorn with, though I haven't measured it, about 1/4 cup of popcorn kernels. This is easily enough to serve three or four people. It is not as easy to clean as the blurbs indicate because oil does get into the hinges of the cover so I'd pass on 'wiping clean' and give the entire thing a good hot soapy wash to make sure you don't end up with rancid oil in the cover.

The Whirley-Pop is a well made popper, and has been very easy to clean after use with just a wipe of a paper towel. However, I find the lid tends to fall off when emptying, despite trying to bend the clasps (not easy), so I have taken to removing the lid entirely rather than trying to empty the popper with the lid attached; just seems easier to empty using hot pads than using the handle. Also, I wish it were a bit larger for bigger batches; I need to pop 2 batches to get enough. Overall, I give the Whirley-Pop a grade of "B".

And it's much more of an event for the kids, turning the handle. He does complain, though, that the lid falls off when he's emptying the hot popcorn into a bowl. Also, the Theatre popcorn that came with it is EXTREMELY greasy - but I guess that's how theatre corn is supposed to be. We seasoned the popper as recommended, and it is easy to clean. It's fun to experiment with different flavors, and it's nice to control the amount of butter/oil so you can make it healthier.
