have used this for 20 years and it's still going strong. the freon that is sealed into the one piece die cast aluminum is warmed by your hand which warms the freon inside (you can hear it when you shake the scoop) and the freon gently warms the cup of the scoop allowing for easy release of the ice cream.

BUT it cannot be put in the dishwasher. the super hot water temp will cause the seal to leak allowing the freon out.

most likely, the current scoops are using the replacement for freon (which i can't remember the name).

easiest scoop to use, easy to clean, built like a tank. it will be the last scoop you buy.

I saw this product in a William Sonoma catalog a few months ago and its clean shiny modern (yet old fashioned) design caught my eye. I didnt really need it, but when it said "Made in USA" I decided I had to try it. It is a wonderful invention and it works very well. Can't believe how easy it is to scoop my favorite treat! Immediately after I use it, I just rinse it with warm soapy water (or not soapy) and just put in the dish drainer to dry. Still looks bran new as I am sure it will always! Just can't put the thing in the dishwasher and that is ok by me! I bought several recently for xmas gifts and b-day gifts. That is how much I like it!

I read about this ice scream scoop on Kevin Kelly's Cool Tools site (http://www.kk.org/cooltools/) and he had great things to say about it so I decided to give it a try. I bought it for my son for Christmas b/c he loves ice cream on a cone. All the scoops we'd ever tried didn't work right - the ice cream stuck to the scoop, then you had to run water in it to get the ice cream to slide off, but that made the ice cream watery and gross. The Zeroll has none of those issues. Every scoop of ice cream is flawless and slides right off the scoop. It makes nice round ice cream balls that fit perfectly in a cone. I'm a gadget geek and it makes me happy every time I use this tool. Thanks Cool Tools!

I bought this scoop after breaking two cheap ones. I paid a little more for this than the cheaper ones, but it is worth the difference! The ice cream falls right out of the scoop into the bowl or cone due to the fluid inside the scoop. Plus it should last anyone a lifetime if taken care of properly. I have ordered extra ones for gifts. Everyone loves them. I highly recommend this product.

My husband and I have an ice cream scoop like this one and I love it! I was visiting my Aunt and Uncle and they have ice cream every night and seemed to be struggling with thier ice cream scoop, so I went on line and ordered this for them. Since my Uncle has arthritis, this was so much easier for him to scoop the ice cream with. And it got there in a day.... Simply Awesome!

This ice cream scoop is really amazing. You'll feel like you're at an ice cream parlor, scooping your own nice, perfect scoop from that vat of ice cream. It will also handle hard ice cream, but not your truly bad hardening disasters. I sometimes make my own ice cream, and once frozen for a day or two, it's REALLY hard. Even this scoop won't put a dent in it (heck, even a KNIFE won't put a dent in it). I still rate this scoop with 5 stars, since for all normal purposes, it's a fabulous tool.

This scoop is the best. I used to microwave the ice cream to make it soft enough to scoop. Not with this scoop. It is so easy to use! It is hand wash only but really how hard is it to clean an ice cream scoop?

I grew-up with an Eljer ice cream scoop with a lever on it. Well I'm very much a grown-up now and that ice cream scoop is still around but for all its durability I remember having many battles trying to use it on hard ice cream. The Zeroll scoop cuts right through and the ice cream slides right into the dish. This is definitely a case of you pay for what you get.

My Wife was using this scoop this evening as we have for 10+ years. She scopped ice Cream for our company, and then went to rinse it off in the sink when it exploded causing severe damage to her hand. It even dented the ceiling as it blasted off from of the sink. Strangest accident I ever heard of, but this product is not safe. The water temp from the faucet was cool, not even warm.
